Welcome!!! This is the first official post for Work At Home! I'm excited to share with you the things I have learned over the years of working from home. I have found a common thread:
- Scams (there are LOTS of these! Be careful!!)
- Low-pay
Let's deal with the scams right off the bat! Work at home scams are easy to spot, first, just like your mama told you, "If it sounds too good to be true....it is!" Those are wise words...think about, an ad reads, "Make $1000 per day stuffing envelopes from home...." Well, let's see, if this were true, would not all the executives out there be quitting their jobs to stuff envelopes?? There is a common sense element to NOT getting suckered into these types of scams. Other scams are harder to spot, for instance, those that say, "Send me $1.99 and I will get you set up with all the data entry work you want....." First off, never, EVER send anyone money to go to work, remember, you want to work to make money!
Low pay is another pet peeve of mine - first off, employers are not paying for office space nor the Internet, wear and tear on the individual's computer probably 99% of the time, so why then do I come across companies wanting to pay meager wages while still expecting professionalism? Working from home is not easy and actually it is just another place where the "office" is located. So, on top of the low wages, many at home jobs are independent contractor (IC), meaning you have to pay your own taxes, you are not an employee of the company.
This brings up another important point - many companies claiming to hire IC's walk a thin line of actually being an employer. What do I mean by this? If you work as an IC, this means you call the shots, you say when you want to work and for how long, if you have a set schedule, guess what? You're working as an IC, regardless of what the company calls it. Why do companies get away with it? Most people that work from home and find a job that pays are so delighted, they overlook it and it goes unreported.
Ok, I'm getting on a rant which was not my intention on the very first post!! I plan also to help you with site and leads for real work at home jobs.
So hang tight, let's enjoy the ride...together!! :)
